GENERAL

Despite the high carbon, alloy elements in small amounts to make a hardenable steel in oil, reaching hardness between 57-62 HRC after tempering. Has good machinability characteristics, wear resistance and response to polishing.

Chemical Composition – C (0.95) • Mn (1.2) • Cr (0.5) • W (0.5)

Supply conditions – Supplied in the annealed condition with hardness of approx 200HB

APPLICATIONS

The GGD O1 steel tooling is used in cutting applications and cold forming tooling and peripherals where requires high wear resistance, especially in the slip. Is typically employed in the work of non-ferrous steel and metals, tools for woodworking, porcelain arrays, measuring instruments of high dimensional stability, such as gauges, hardness standards, rules, drills, knives shears, rebarbadores cold , cutters, punches, males, Split dies.

HEAT TREATMENT

Stress relief: In tools of complex shapes, heterogeneous material removal in roughing, sudden changes in sections, etc., should be carried out treating strain relief to minimize dimensional variations and form during the quenching and tempering. The treatment should be between 500 – 600 ° C for at least two hours and then, cool slowly in the oven to 300 ° C and then in still air.

Temper: Preheat to 600 ° C. Austenize in temperature between 790 – 820ºC and cool in water. Heat for 1 hour for each 25 mm thick and add 1 additional hour for each 25 mm. Cool warm oil with agitation, in still air in molten salt bath at approximately 200 ° C. Then cool the still air.

Tempering: It must be done immediately after hardening when the temperature reaches about 70 ° C. The tempering temperature should be selected according to the specified hardness. As this steel does not have secondary hardening, tempering must be around 200 ° C for hardness between 59-61 HRC, but never below 180 ° C. For this use as a guide the tempering curve below. Keeping the tempering temperature for at least 1 hour for each 25 mm of thickness. Using a minimum of 2 hours. The double tempering is recommended for greater dimensional stability.

Quenching from 820ºC. Double tempering of 2 hours each.

EDM and grinding: The steel GGD O1 is susceptible to the appearance of cracks after these processes. When performed outside the box, the EDM and grinding can cause retempers surface, deteriorating the heat treatment in the region and lead to the formation of cracks. In extreme cases it can cause loss tool. It is important to remove the retemperada layer before use. Preferably perform a new tempering after finishing tool for stress relief. In this case the temperature is 50 ° C lower than the revenimento.Têmpera from 820ºC. Double tempering of 2 hours each.
